Types of Therapy

Client-Centered Therapy

Client-Centered Therapy

Client-Centered Therapy

Client-centered therapy, also known as person-centered therapy, is based on the belief that you are the expert in your own life. In this approach, I provide a supportive, non-judgmental environment where you can explore your feelings, thoughts, and experiences. The focus is on empathy, active listening, and unconditional positive regard to empower you to make meaningful changes in your life and foster personal growth.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Trauma-Informed therapy is an approach that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma on mental health and well-being. It ensures that all aspects of therapy, including interactions, communication, and techniques, are sensitive to the needs of those who have experienced trauma. The goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where you feel empowered to process your experiences at your own pace, with an emphasis on healing, safety, and trust.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy

Somatic therapy focuses on the connection between the body and the mind. It recognizes that trauma and stress can be stored in the body, and by paying attention to physical sensations, movements, and tension, we can release emotional blockages and facilitate healing. This approach helps you become more aware of how your body responds to stress, trauma, and emotions, enabling you to process and release those emotions in a healthier way.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) combines traditional cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with mindfulness practices to help you break the cycle of negative thinking patterns that contribute to anxiety, depression, and stress. Through mindfulness, you learn to become more aware of your thoughts and feelings in the present moment, without judgment. This awareness helps you respond to challenges with more balance and resilience, rather than reacting impulsively or negatively.

Emotion-Focused Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) centers on the idea that emotions are at the heart of human experience and are key to understanding and healing. EFT helps you identify, process, and transform difficult emotions, particularly those that may be stuck or unexpressed. It’s particularly useful for improving emotional regulation, resolving past emotional wounds, and strengthening relationships by fostering emotional awareness and connection.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is based on the idea that struggling against your thoughts and feelings often creates more suffering. Instead of trying to eliminate negative emotions, ACT encourages you to accept them and commit to actions that align with your values. It helps you develop psychological flexibility, allowing you to live a meaningful life even in the presence of difficult emotions or experiences.

It's important to understand the costs associated with therapy. My rates are competitive and I accept Visa and Mastercard payments through the online Jane platform for added convenience. A detailed receipt will be provided at the end of each session for submission to insurance and potential reimbursement.

Additionally, I offer a free 15 minute consultation call to ensure I'm the right fit for you.

Cancellation Policy

Please be aware that I require 24 hours notice for cancelling or rescheduling your appointment.

Clients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a cancellation fee. Having a cancellation policy helps me to properly manage my schedule and offer more session availability.

Insurance

Please confirm with your insurance provider that 1377 Counselling's services are covered under your benefits plan.  Your therapist is registered and in good standing with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), which is often covered under most plans. However, coverage for therapy services can vary, so it is important to contact your benefits provider directly to ensure that the individual provider is covered under your plan.

Location

While I am located in Cochrane, Alberta, I serve all of Alberta virtually. I currently offer virtual sessions in the evening and occasionally on weekends. Virtual sessions are a convenient and flexible option for those with busy schedules or who prefer to meet from the comfort of their own home.
